July 20, 2016 by Amy 9 Comments

Oh man, fresh homemade chili sauce is sooo much better in recipes than store bought.  This recipe is a sweet chili sauce, not hot.  We absolutely love it on top of our meatloaf and in baked beans, delicious.  [Read more…] about Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe

Peach Raspberry Jam Recipe

July 18, 2016 by Amy 4 Comments

When my Grandpa married my step Grandma Norma, she introduced us to some delicious recipes.  One of my favorites, is her delicious Peach Raspberry Jam.  I planted peach trees and raspberry bushes at my house, for this very jam.  Although we enjoy the fruits of both in many other recipes too.  I know sometimes people get intimidated by canning, but this jam really is easy and well worth the effort. Hintze Pudding

March 14, 2016 by Amy

Happy PI Day (3.14)!  Nerds Unite.

We have had this homemade pudding recipe in my family for a very long time, it’s called Hintze Pudding (hint-zee).  My Mom started making it after she got the recipe from my Dad’s Mom.  It makes the best banana cream pie, coconut cream pie and chocolate pie.  It is also fantastic in eclairs and everywhere else a vanilla pudding is needed.

The pudding is simple to make in the microwave or on the stove.  The only part that is sort of tricky is that you have to temper the eggs or else you end up with scrambled eggs in your pudding.  The deliciousness of the pudding makes up for the extra effort.

Mom’s Pie Crust

March 14, 2016 by Amy

I may be extremely biased here, but my Mom makes the best pie crust I’ve ever tasted!  Her pie crust is always delicious flaky perfection.  The recipe is super simple too, only uses 4 ingredients: flour, salt, shortening and water.  With such a simple recipe, the key lies in the technique.  I don’t feel like I’ve quite reached perfection in my skills, but my younger sister has…so there is hope!

I’m going to include a little dissertation from my Mom.

Dixie Salad

January 11, 2016 by Amy

I love it when pomegranates come into season, because that means my Aunt will bring Dixie Salad to family parties.  My Aunt grew up in St. George, also known as Utah’s Dixie.  This is one of her recipes from back home that we surely love.  The salad is very simple, it’s made from apples, pomegranates, raisins, pecans and sweetened cream.  That’s it, but it is bursting with flavor in every bite.  Make sure to serve it cold, and it will be so refreshing.   [Read more…] about Dixie Salad

Lemony Lemon Bars

January 4, 2016 by Amy

These lemon bars have the perfect amount of lemony flavor on a delicious shortbread type crust.  I like to make the bars with a thicker buttery cookie like crust.   [Read more…] about Lemony Lemon Bars
