Ham and beans is such a simple dish, and a good comfort food. It’s my husband’s favorite way to finish up a ham, since it uses the ham bone and pieces. He loves to spice up the soup with his favorite hot sauce, I like it how it is. This easy Ham and Beans recipe is a new years tradition at our house, a little superstition to ring in good luck for the new year. It must be a southern thing.

Mardi Gras is such a fun tradition and celebration in Louisiana (and other places). No Mardi Gras party is complete without a delicious king cake. My in-laws have their favorite bakeries to get a king cake. However since we are in Utah, they don’t sell them so we make our own. Homemade king cake is so good. King Cake is basically a sweet roll that is cooked in a ring shape. For this king cake, I used my favorite sweet bread recipe – cardamom bread and filled it with gooey goodness. I had been searching for a great wheat bread recipe for a long time. I tried a lot of recipes, and most were too dry to eat. I came across the Honey Wheat Bread II on allrecipes.com and with a few tweaks, it is by far my favorite wheat bread. This bread has never failed me. I love the density, flavor and texture. When my Grandpa married my step Grandma Norma, she introduced us to some delicious recipes. One of my favorites, is her delicious Peach Raspberry Jam. I planted peach trees and raspberry bushes at my house, for this very jam. Although we enjoy the fruits of both in many other recipes too.
